After watching a recent episode of Jane By Design I've been fascinated by the idea of Neon. Last year I did a dance to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper that allowed me to wear neon tops, sports bras and leggings. Let's just say I was having more fun than I should.

What catches my eyes in stores

I used to not like Funfetti Cake since to me it tastes just like regular cake but one of my good friends, Renee is obsessed with Funfetti Cake and has now gotten me to love it too. Planning to make this one of these days. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

Everything I usually carry

February 24, 2012

Hello my dolls! I'm taking a small break from my massive posting spree (17 posts in 8 days for you guys! Though they're each scheduled to be released at different times) to update you all on my current life. I'm wrapping up my second quarter of college in the next few weeks before beginning my last quarter as a freshman! This year has truly blown by so quickly it's ridiculous. I feel like I just moved into the dorms yesterday and now I have to start packing to move back home soon! It's crazy! And I just scheduled for my spring quarter. I'm freaking out to say the least! And in a few weeks I'll be beginning to think about what to take next year! So many more choices...it's so crazy! But I wanted to show you all my overachieving schedule! I'm quite excited to jump in on it.

9:30-10:48- French 102
11:00-12:18- History 557 (American Revolution & The birth of a new nation)
1:00-2:05- Math 75 (basic math because I'm horrid at it xD )
2:30-3:48- Sociology 463 (Sociology stratification.)
All on Monday, Wednesday, Friday so I can have Tuesdays & Thursdays off.

Making a difference and Success

I was sitting in my senior "Comparative Religions" class when my teacher said something that seemed very interesting to me. She mentioned that some people go into college wanting to get a good paying job that would allow them to buy "stuff" and that there are others who go in wanting to make a difference.

I have a problem with society separating those who make a difference to those who are successful in the worldly sense. Why can't both happen? Being successful just means you have greater means to serve the world. I plan to be a songwriter and yes, the pay for successful songwriters who write hits is quite high but the thing that gets me the most excited? The ability to inspire generations, to save lives.

God made us all unique so it makes sense that he would give us all different job duties. Not everyone can be CEO's of a Fortune 500 company or a priest. Too much of any profession is inefficient. So whatever God has called you to find a way to make a difference no matter the salary you make. It's the will to  make a difference that allows you to. Making a difference does NOT require you to give up your whole life to God or to be dirt poor.

My bag I've had since over the summer.

reed krakoff bag

Photobucket
I saw this gorgeous Reed Krakoff bag on polyvore, but it's too bad that I'm fairly certain the bag retails for over one grand. That's just way to expensive for me to buy but less expensive look a likes can be found if you search hard enough. Most of the outfit is black and white but I threw in some red and gold accessories to spice up the look.

Boutiques we love//Anthropologie

Photobucket
I love Anthropologie even though it's a bit pricey for the quality of items they have. Visiting their store though is almost like going to the thrift store. You can find amazingly inexpensive stuff if you dig though things. In fact one of my favorite things about the store is the atmosphere, it's decorated so beautifully it's like you stepped into a forest. Every time I visit the store I take forever perusing the shelves looking at the interesting bracelets, necklaces and home accessories they have. Even if you don't buy anything it's just too much fun to go shopping at the store.

So after a lot of waiting I finally got some of my Valentine's day presents! As in my big one still isn't here, but my friend felt guilty so she bought me two presents to hold me over. Also I got a wonderful date with my roommate. Okay. She took me to Olive Garden and paid. It was delicious.

My friend's 5 year old sister picked this out for me. It's actually a toothbrush holder, but I put jewelry in them instead. They're so adorable and I couldn't help myself!

My new purse! I LOVE it. It's a cross-body. She'd great.

Also I have a lot of posts coming soon starting tomorrow so look out for those!

chambray and burgundy

Photobucket
I was fooling around on polyvore today during my free period when I realized an amazing color combination is Burgundy and Chambray so I created an outfit that I think would work perfectly. Possibly my favorite part of the outfit is the Asos bag which retails at $40.

Michael by Michael Kors leather Jacket/Seven jeans/ Harolds black turtleneck(a boutique in Dallas)/ Harolds Scarf/Steve Madden Boots.

So, since I'm a native of Dallas and it literally never gets cold except for one or two days in the winter most of us are really excited to pull out our scarves and leather jackets. The leather jacket was featured on the blog here. This leather jacket is my favorite jacket out of all the ones I own because it's just the perfect color of cognac and it looks amazing on me.

Street Style: NYFW Fall 2012 RTW

Photobucket
My favorite part of fashion week other than the designs and shows themselves (obviously) is the amazing street style. Mostly everyone who attends fashion week are very stylish and daring with their choices. My favorite look is the fabulous editor in chief of Vogue Magazine, Anna Wintour herself (not only do I love her but Meryl Streep who played a character based off of Wintour in Devil Wears Prada remains one of my favorite movies). I also love the bold pant choices from the girls on the right and perfectly approriate color for winter is the lady in the mustard yellow skirt. What have been some of YOUR favorite street style pictures from fashion week?
Another haul? God I'm ridiculous! My parents came up to visit me yesterday and told me to buy whatever I needed. So I thought I would share!
My best friend's birthday and valentine's day presents. She's spoiled

Ingredients

2 Plain or Sweet Onion Poppyseed Bagels
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and finely chopped
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or drained yogurt
1/2 cup light sour cream
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1 large clove garlic, mashed into a paste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
Pinch of sugar
Pinch of ground black pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 300ºF. With a serrated knife, very carefully cut the bagels into slices between 1/8-inch and 1/4-inch thick (8 to 10 slices per bagel). Spread in a single layer on baking sheets. Generously coat all over with cooking spray, garlic salt, and pepper. Bake until brown and crisp, 18 to 20 minutes. Let cool on pans.

Meanwhile, toss the cucumber with the salt in a colander; let drain 30 minutes. Press and blot dry with paper towels. Mix in a bowl with yogurt, sour cream, oil, vinegar, garlic, dill, sugar, and pepper. Serve with bagel chips for dipping. Dip keeps refrigerated for up to 4 days. Chips keep at room temperature in a paper bag for up to 4 days.

Makes about 18 bagel chips (6 servings).
Prep: 30 minutes
Cook: 20 minutes

February 11, 2012

Hello, my darlings! So last Saturday was my 19th birthday and because I have the most wonderful roommate in the world she got me a $25 gift card to Bath & Body works so on Monday we went to the mall to go shopping because she also wanted to go to Rue 21 and see what they had.

I ended up spending like $28 on 3 scents but they're all so worth it! Personally Bali Mango is my current favorite of the three. But I also ended up picking up Rio Rumberry and Paris Amour. Both of which are amazing as well!

So I've had the same wallet for about a year and a half now so when we went into Rue 21 I saw these little beauties just hanging out and had to have one! The price tag said $3 but I ended up spending $2 and I don't regret it! I'm in love with it.

Living in Ohio means we have cold winters. For whatever reason I don't own ear muffs. Well I do but they're like head bands and that's just not attractive with anything aside from a pony tail. So I saw these for $5 and decided "ehh...why not?" Turns out they were $1!

My favorite buy! I just love sunglasses and was going to buy a pair that were floral print instead but as my roommate kept pointing out to me they wouldn't go with every outfit so I settled on these beautiful $6 ones.

now to go ready another post for you all!

So I'm single this year for Valentines Day so it's kind of a bummer in terms of having a date. But that's okay because Valentines Day is the perfect day to rock red and pink! Although I do beg that you don't overdo it with the red, because after making this collage I'm seeing Red! Anyways for those of you who are taken enjoy Valentines and for those of us who are single! It's Single Awareness Day but still dress to impress, you never know who you will meet.

Piano Room Inspiration

Photobucket
Having played piano since I was four and wanting to major in it for college and dreaming about becoming a songwriter I am constantly thinking about how I would style my "Piano Boudoir" It's going to be a refuge for me to come in and listen to music, read books and play piano(obviously). I want a bookshelf with many different compartments so I can organize all my piano books, cds, magazines and all other books I have. I basically want the big furniture such as the lamps, chandeliers, rugs etc. to be black and white and have colorful accents thrown all throughout the world. I included a candle in here even though I'm not the biggest fan of lighting candles. But a fancy schmanzy candle(if I can find it on the cheap) will smell good and serve as a nice decoration.

Food Revolution

Viva la France! Sorry I just had to make a reference to the French Revolution. Anyways I just spent the last few hours watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Really sad the show got canceled :( but through two seasons I've learned a lot from watching the show. One of the points that really stood out to me was his point about not eating anything when you don't know the ingredients listed on the back. And I was like woah, he has a really good point!

My parents are really big on healthy eating and dieting etc. And I honestly have been getting better with eating habits and yes drinking water! I just bought myself a nice plastic cup with a straw(a grown-up sippy cup) and I have been drinking water instead of coffee, soda and milk tea(which is my weakness). So yay for drinking more water! I've also started eating more avocado-which has tons of antioxidants and seaweed-which has numerous health benefits one of them being that it helps prevent Cancer.

The thing about eating healthy and exercising more is to know yourself and your limits. If you drink two cups of water now and you want to drink 8 cups of water a day now in about a week you are probably going to fail. And once you fail at it you say "Oh I can't do it!" and then you give up all together. So for the next week I want all of you lovely readers to drink a cup more of water per day until you reach eight and maintain it. And if you are one of the lucky ones who do drink eight cups a day, you go girl!

New boots and my trip to Houston

This past weekend I went to Houston to visit Rice and have my audition. The audition itself went well (and the campus is gorgeous) and I'm just waiting now to hear if I got in. Anyways my family always stay in the Post Oak/ Galleria area of Houston so obviously you know I went shopping at the Galleria. So I'm from Dallas and we also have a Galleria but their's is about 10 times better than ours. Anyways! So I wanted to find piano shoes so my mom and I went to all the shoe stores like Nine West, Steve Madden, Aldo and even some department stores like Nordstorms and Macy's. I never did find piano shoes but I'll keep looking so it's whatever. BUT I did find these gorgeous boots for 30 bucks at Nine West. They were having a 75% off sale and they were originally 129. So I'm really happy I got them!

Also one of the things I love most about traveling is all the good food you get to have! So we had dinner and breakfast at the same restaurant The Daily Grill located right in the Galleria. I ordered the trout which was too die for and I don't even like fish. And that morning before I left for my audition I had the American Breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage and pancakes. I swear they are better than IHop! Anyways my weekend was amazing how was yours?
